INSTANTANEOUS & TANKLESS WATER HEATING SYSTEMS
If you are looking for long term solutions that will save you
energy while providing a healthier solution to water
heating then a tankless water heater may be exactly what you are looking
for. They may cost more up front to purchase and install but the
long term savings will more than pay for their intial costs over and over again.
Their popularity stems from their efficient and
miserly use of natural gas. Since this type of water heater only uses gas when the hot tap is turned on there are
no standby costs. The standby cost to water heaters with tanks are the cost in energy and dollars to keep 400 to
600 pounds of water hot and ready for you to use all the time. Even when you are sleeping, at work, or at the
cottage they are still using energy and your hard earned money keeping hot water on standby. The water heater is
burning away waiting for you to use some hot water. Sounds crazy don't you think. And why waste a non-renewable
resource like that? It makes no sense.
Tankless water heaters are also more efficient than a standard tank type water
heater. The more efficient design of the tankless water heater "heat exchanger" transfers the heat of the flame
faster to the water. Heating the water with amazing speed - in fact it heats up the water as fast as the water runs
- without having to store that hot water using up endless amounts of electricity or gas.
The traditional hot water tank has another down
side - over time the bottom a standard water heater will build up with scale (a white chalky residue left over from
the impurities in the water). This scale acts as an insulator between the flame and the water making it harder to
heat the water thus using even more energy for a system that will continue to deteriorate in efficiency over
time.
A properly installed tankless heater will have special piping connections to
permit regular cleaning of the heat exchanger (thus preventing scaling). This way the operating efficiency of the
unit can be maintained over a long period of time. Tankless water heaters are designed to last approximately 20
years. You won't see a tank type last that long. Today's standard tank type heaters last only 10 - 12 years and
throughout their life their operating efficiency falls to a dismal 50%.
A
traditional hot water tank may be less expensive to buy in the beginning but in the long run they cost you more
money in hydro, gas, water, and replacements.
At a
time when everyone is concerned with saving our natural resources the tankless water heater is a perfect solution
to keeping our luxuries while saving our dwindling resources.
