TANKLESS WATER HEATERS DON'T WORK IN CANADA

This is the story that is told over and over again and it is partially true.  Many tankless systems will not work well in Canada - but there are some that work exceptionally well. That's why it is absolutely vital that anyone considering going tankless does their homework to make sure they are getting the right system for their location and sized to fit their needs.

The traditional tankless water heater is designed to heat incoming water that is around 15° celcius - the problem is, in the winter time the ground water temperature in Ottawa can get as low as 2° celcius. What this means to the average home owner with a traditional tankless system is they end up with NO hot water in the winter time.

There are a few tankless systems that are specifically designed for our colder ground water temperature. In order to heat water that cold it takes more power. Thus the electric tankless systems are not well suited for whole home tankless heating - but the new gas tankless systems are perfect. It is important to make sure that any tankless you buy has a minimum of 160,000 BTU's so that it is capable of heating up cold water instantly.
