OUR TEAM

Francis Plumbing & Heating takes great pride in our professional team of experts that make Francis Plumbing
& Heating Ottawa's most trusted hydronics company since 1933.
If you have ever wondered what it takes to be the best in the industry here is some information about the
training and certification our employees have had to go through in order to be employed by our company:
Licensed Plumbers & Gas Fitters:
In Ontario plumbers must have a license to work in construction or installing fittings and fixtures where the
distribution and use of water within a building is involved. This also includes the safe removal of used water from
grey and black water in the home to storm drains. Kitchens and bathroom renovations will require licensed
plumbers.
Apprentices in the plumbing trade serve a 9,000-hour training period (5 years full time) with 720 of these
hours in the classroom (3 years of education spread out between ongoing on the job training as an apprentice).
The average licensed plumbers achieves their license status after 6 years of successful on the job training with
schooling and passing exam qualifications.
We also believe that it is vital that our employees understand the health ramifications of water in the home and
their responsibility for protecting the public.
The average person does not understand that all plumbing pipes are connected in a very specific way for a very
specific reason - to assure your safety. There are over 25 diseases (deadly and debilitating) that are the
result of poor sanitation.
To eliminate these potential life threatening health risks it is vital that the plumbing is done exactly to
code and that no short cuts are taken. Our employees are trainned to make sure that each job is completed exactly
to code so that the homeowner can rest assure that the waste is removed from their homes and that their drinking
water remains safe to drink.
Our plumbers are also trained in hydronic heating which includes boilers, radiators, radiant floor heating,
hot water tanks, tankless instantaneus water heaters, snow melt systems for driveways and more.
Our employees never stop learning! Each of our employees is required to continue their education
throughout their entire employment time with our company. From keeping up to date with the latest
technology in plumbing & hydronics to ongoing training and changes to the Ontario building and plumbing
code.
We value education highly and thus we are proud to still have on staff two senior retired professionals
(combined they have over 80 years experience in the trade) who work with our staff as trainers and consultants
to assure that our employees not only stay up to date with the newest technology but understand how to repair the
pipes and equipment in older homes.
The final stamp of approval in our training comes from the company owner Dave Francis himself who is a Licensed
Master Plumber & Boiler specialist with a BA from Carleton University in addition to certification in many
diverse applications of hydronic (including radiant floor design, snow melt systems, boiler applications, etc). Mr.
Francis spends time each month with each individual employee to review the work they are doing
and to make sure it meets our very strict professional standards.
The training does not end there however - each employee is also personally coached in customer service so
that they are better able to communicate with our customers. It is vital to our business that our customers are
treated politely with dignity and respect, to be given accurate information about the job they are having done
and that any questions they may have are addressed promptly.
It is for all of these reasons that Francis Plumbing & Heating is Ottawa's most trusted hydronics company
since 1933.
